FAQ

Is HomeBase 3 compatible with other eufy Security products?
HomeBase 3 works with eufyCam models, eufy Battery Doorbells, eufy Sensors, Indoor Cam, Outdoor Cam and Floodlight Cam 2K Pro. SoloCam and other Floodlight models will be compatible in July/August.
What kind of hard drive can I use to expand the storage* of HomeBase 3?
Any 5V 2.5" storage* drive (HDD or SSD) with a SATA interface.Note: 12V storage* drives are not supported.
Why does my camera battery discharge quickly?
If the current operation of the camera is consuming power beyond what is normal, you may need to adjust the configuration to reduce false triggers and excessive recording events. Try the following:
1) Switch to Power Saving mode.
2) Reduce the sensitivity of Motion Detection.
3) Choose Human Only mode.
4) Enable Activity Zones that focus on the monitoring area.
Try to avoid including public walkways or roads as movement in these areas may result in frequent false triggers.
What are the two USB ports on the back of HomeBase used for?
They have three functions:
1. To charge your camera. The USB 1 port (blue) is recommended for quick charging.
2. To use a USB flash drive for video backup.
3. To allow function expansions in the future.
Why doesn't the hard drive work?
It may be caused by one of the following reasons:
1. HomeBase 3 is slow to read the data on your hard drive. Bigger storage* may take longer to set up. Please wait around 2 minutes after installing a hard drive to turn on HomeBase 3.
2. HomeBase 3 can read certain data formats only. An installed hard drive may need to be formatted by HomeBase 3 before it can be used.
3. If your hard drive is old, too hot, or damaged, it could be un-readable by HomeBase 3.
After installing a hard drive, I found that the outside surface of HomeBase 3 was hot. Is this something to worry about?
Don't worry, a lot of testing has been performed, and the temperature of all components and parts will stay within the permissible range.
Inside HomeBase 3 there is a cooling fan that dynamically adjusts the wind speed to cool the device when required. If your space permits, we recommend placing HomeBase 3 in an open space to allow ventilation and heat dissipation.
Can I use HomeBase 3 on Wi-Fi?
HomeBase 3 can only be connected to your network using an ethernet cable at this time. It will be able to connect to your network via Wi-Fi after a software update expected in Feb, 2023.

I had a competitors subscription doorbell that was slow to send notifications even when at home in the garden, so I purchased a duel doorbell and 380 base. The installation was simple. The camera is excellent and the app shows both the package protection and person view very clearly. The respnse and notifications are perfect which is very importent if you need to talk to your visitor (or intruder). We are pensioners and feel very safe at home or away now after installing the Eufy doorbell.

HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3) - Initial Impressions

The unit looks nice and was easy to set up with my router. It paired effortlessly with the cameras on my system. The doorbell chime is good and loud. It's quiet and doesn't seem to get hot. The AI is OK - sometimes mistakes wildlife for humans and facial recognition of family members is maybe 80% accurate. Hopefully it'll improve over time and with updates. The app is excellent and full of features.

One word of warning about the expandable storage option though...

The HomeBase 3 can take a 2.5" SATA hard drive and in theory up to 16TB. In reality there are some issues with this. First, you have HDD (older tech, but cheaper) and SSD (newer tech, but very costly) storage. HDD is arguably better for surveillance because of the constant re-writing of data (SSDs have a 'shelf-life', or TBW rating, that limits the re-write capacity over time until the unit degrades and needs to be replaced - HDD doesn't have this issue), but HDDs suited specifically for surveillance use don't come in 2.5" (they are 3.5"as standard, so won't fit in the HomeBase 3). Also, because HDD is steadily being replaced by newer SSD tech, HDD capacity in 2.5" size is unlikely to be found above 4-6TB (nowhere near the 16TB max capacity of the HomeBase 3). So if you have a lot of cameras on your system and you want 24/7 recording in high quality then you'll need to go with an SSD, as these provide much higher storage capacity in the 2.5" format. Currently, SSD tech goes up to about 16TB, but at about 2TB you're already paying more for the storage than you did for the HomeBase. At 16TB you'll probably be paying as much as you did for the whole security system! Factor in that an SSD used for surveillance-style recording will degrade much faster than a HDD and for the cost it doesn't seem ideal. I'm surprised Eufy, a company making security hardware, wasn't aware of this (or perhaps they were and decided to restrict storage choice anyway for other reasons). I would take a slightly physically larger HomeBase 3 to have the option of using a 3.5" high capacity (and cheaper) surveillance HDD, that I know will last longer than the SSD I was ultimately forced to buy. I learned all this after buying.

Just something you need to be aware of if the >16TB expandable storage is something that is important to you.
