The cameras

I’ve owned Eufy security cameras for several years, dating back to some of their earliest solar powered models, and can see clearly that these newer cameras have some big improvements.

The picture quality is exceptionally clear, producing detailed colour images both during the day and at night. Facial features, clothing details and other identifying characteristics are easy to make out, even in low-light conditions.

The cameras can also be remotely moved using the app, allowing me to change the viewing angle and monitor different areas of my property when needed.

Facial recognition has improved considerably compared with older models. I’ve named family members and regular visitors within the app, so alerts now identify familiar people by name, making notifications much more useful at a glance.

Installation is straightforward. You’ll need a drill, but no specialist tools or DIY expertise.
The cameras connect themselves to the Home base quickly and with no problem.

Separate solar panels

For me, the separate solar panels are a major improvement. I also own a camera with an integrated solar panel and so can compare the two systems directly, I prefer the separation panel by far.

Although having a separate panel means mounting one additional component, it allows you to position the camera where you need coverage while placing the solar panel in the sunniest location. My older integrated-panel camera struggled to maintain charge during the shorter, grey winter days, whereas this setup has completely solved that issue.

The app

The app is clear, intuitive and easy to navigate.
I’m not particularly technical, yet I can confidently use all of its features, including moving the cameras, switching between views, zooming, setting activity and privacy zones, configuring facial recognition and using the two-way audio function….even my mother, who can’t use the smart t.v can use this.

Worth knowing

You’ll need to supply your own microSD card, and it’s worth buying a good quality card from a known brand with a decent storage capacity.

At under £230 at the time of review, plus the cost of a memory card, I think this security system is excellent value.
You get two highly capable cameras, local storage, useful smart features and straightforward operation without ongoing subscription costs.
