After using a different brand that came with yearly subscriptions, I decided to look for one that did not ask for yearly subs.
After considering different option, looking at reviews, YouTube explanations and multiple written reports, I ended up getting the S4 kit.
Great package with the 2 camera units and the Homebase. Very easy to follow setup instructions, box full of all the items you will need and giving you options and the overall process of setting up them all was very easy too.
The options of being able to add to this at a later date was also one of the reasons I went with the Eufy range. No more Subscriptions, plenty of space for recordings, the ability to add to the security - what more could I ask for.
Well done, Eufy
Simple and easy to install. Brilliant design.
The camera system delivers notably sharp 4K footage, and the multi-lens design gives a clear advantage when tracking movement across wider areas. Its pan-tilt function responds quickly, allowing thorough coverage without leaving blind spots. Colour night vision also performs well, keeping detail intact even in darker corners of my long garden I've set this up to monitor. I do have strong WiFi in my property and garden, but even when using the direct connection with the included Homebase, I did not have any issues with camera connection. The built-in solar panel makes a practical difference, removing the need for frequent charging and keeping the units running reliably through varied weather. Motion tracking is smooth, and the hybrid zoom helps capture close-up detail without losing clarity. Setup is straightforward, and the expandable storage option offers welcome flexibility for long-term use.Across daily use, the system remains stable and easy to manage. Alerts arrive promptly, and the footage feels dependable for monitoring outdoor spaces. Overall, it stands out as a well-rounded choice for anyone wanting premium image quality and low-maintenance operation. Whilst on the pricier side when compared to other options, I believe that the feature set of this package makes it absolutely great value.
Eufy’s eufyCam S4 2-Cam Kit is an easy to setup external security camera system for the home of workplace. This starter kit comes with two cameras with wide angle and 8x zoom lens. The latter is on a self-tracking or manually steerable motorised ball. The fixed lens is 4k and have a wide 130-degree field of view; the zoomable cameras are 2k. Both work well and give good video in day and even colour video at night. The kit includes two solar panels to keep the cameras charged; these can be mounted on the camera, or separately onto a wall or roof to get better light. The pack also includes the S380 wireless base station, this has 16gb of storage for recordings built in, but you can expand it with 2.5” sata drives to store more footage. Out of the box this isn’t a constantly recording system rather it triggers of movement, with some local AI functions to help it recognise issues. The movement detection is helped in that each camera has a radar sensor on it for tracking movement, this seems to ignore swaying trees, but not people walking towards the house. You can setup movement zones; so, you can ignore public spaces or neighbours’ drives if you need to.The 2k camera moves to track people walking in front of it; and you can have lights turn on to welcome people as they approach. If you want continuous recording, it’s available to purchase in the app.Unlike some of the eufy cameras these aren’t accessible in apples HomeKit; though it is with Alexa and google home.Eufy has made the setup very simple; and it is compatible with their in-home cameras too. The app is easy to use; and sends alerts and notifications when it detects movement that let you see what’s happening straight away. That the cameras are solar powered; have large batteries with a long life make this all a great package. You can fit them up near the eves and leave them without having to run wires or charge them. Easy to setup, great video day and night and a wide and zoom lenses to get video footage and store it on the base station should you need it later.
£550 at time of review Eufy S4 2 Cam Kit with S380 base unitThere’s so much to this system that I can’t cover it all, apart from saying this is my third Eufy system and I really think they’re one of the best thought through and easy to set up and use systems I’ve used so far, plus storing all your footage locally and not needing a subscription is a no brainer for meEufy have such a huge range of cameras, it’s difficult to work out why and which works best, but having used three Eufy different systems now, I can see pros and cons of them all. I installed a Eufy E42 system (with the same S380 base unit) at my home a few months ago and am really happy with it, I installed a Eufy C35 system (different base unit) at my father’s home about a month ago which has been working great and was perfect for his place as the cameras are much smaller & I mainly wanted cameras for indoors that wouldn’t feel out of place, with just one by his front door outsideSo when I saw this I thought, ooh I’ll upgrade my home, but upon reflection, these are overkill for what I need, plus due to the nature of my house being in such close proximity to my neighbour and the main camera is in a fixed position, it would have been pointing directly at their front door and I didn’t feel that would be appropriate, or useful to me. So my sister nabbed this off me the first chance she had, although of course I then had to set them up for her!I’ve gone into detail about set up and software in another review (link below) so won’t go into that herehttps://www.amazon.co.uk/review/RGIBER34KQ8GX/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8If you can connect your cameras directly to the base station’s WiFi that’s obviously the best way to go, otherwise you can connect to it via your own WiFi. I found the range on the basestation to be surprisingly good and was able to connect to it directly from the end of my garden 12-14 metres away and through a couple of walls tooIf you’ve read my other review above you’ll note that I mentioned the Eufy app and camera set up was one of the easiest I’ve ever used, and as this is the third system I’ve set up in a few months I can still attest to that.Pretty much all security cameras nowadays allow you to set up zones, areas to ignore, schedules etc which is fine for fixed cameras, but once you want to use the pan tilt functions you lose the ability to set up zones, as the camera is able to move around. But as this has three cameras, one super wide that remains fixed and the another two can pan and zoom you can set up zones and still have tracking and PTZ functionality. You get two feeds from each camera, the fixed camera is 4K while the PTZ camera is 2.5k, image quality is good, obviously on a bright sunny day it’s excellent, at night it will become a bit blurry, you can record in colour using ambient light, using the built in lights and you have the option to switch over to invisible infra red.Solar: there’s pros and cons. my camera set up I have one in my garden using solar, the one by my house is plugged into the mains, as they use USB-C connections from the solar panel, it’s simple to swap the solar for a USB-C power adapter, even a battery pack should you want. But if you’re using the lights, infra-red, zoom etc or want to record continually then you’re likely going to deplete the battery quicker than it can recharge it… especially with our sunny skies ;) Also I find that these miss a couple of seconds of the recording at the beginning when they’re using solar power, probably due to it going into a low power mode to conserve battery, then it wakes up, does a hand shake with the base station then starts transmitting, all still quite fast, but you may miss something important. I got around this by installing an SD card in my cameras and running one of them off the mains, it now caches the initial recording to the SSD, then when it connects to the base station to start a recording it includes what it’s cached to the SSD and I don’t miss anything. This could be a make or break decision for you, although I doubt there’s any system out there using solar panels that wouldn’t also go into a power saving mode and possibly miss an initial couple of secs, and you may find that my work around will work for you tooHope my review was helpful
This is a review of "eufy Security eufyCam S4 2-Cam Kit, Solar Security Camera Wireless Outdoor, Triple-Lens Bullet-PTZ Cam, 4K UHD, 360° Pan and Tilt, Auto Track, 8× Hybrid Zoom, Colour Night Vision, Expandable Storage"I am a massive fan of all things Eufy - I have been buying their little automatic nightlights for years and have recommended them to others (phenomenal battery life). I also have a Eufy robovac (not perfect but very good), and another set of Eufy security cameras (very good). In fact the only Eufy product I have tried that I was less than satisfied with was an older generation EUFY doorbell. So these cameras... I will first of all mention the price - currently £549 -which is steep enough. So are they worth it?I would say that depends on your specific needs and circumstances. For me, the huge appeal to these is that they can be installed wirelessly - that's a massive advantage over many of the (admittedly much cheaper) PTZ type camera systems out there. Also, the solar power panels do seem to be very efficient, even in our recent dismal weather. The triple lens arrangement is excellent, particularly the pan and zoom facility and the night vision. 16GB of built-in storage is generous too, currently I see no need to add to expand that however I am going to see if I can link it to my home NAS, just to have that extra space if needed. This a a very slick and well-designed system, which I cannot fault.I do revisit my reviews if something significant shows up in subsequent use - I'd be surprised if I had to in this case.- - - - - - - - - -Note: As a member of the Vine program I was supplied with this item free of charge. I will always provide an impartial and fair review of the product in question. My rating system is as follows:5 Stars – an exceptionally good, high quality product with no perceived shortcomings4 stars – a very good product that met my expectations3 stars – a product which could be better in some respects, but is still fit for purpose2 stars - a product with significant shortcomings, one which disappointed1 star - an absolute disaster of a product that should not be on sale
This camera has been one of the most capable systems I have tried at home. The fixed wide lens gives a clear picture of the driveway, while the PTZ section locks onto movement and follows it smoothly. The tracking feels precise without drifting away from the subject. The solar charging works even during cloudier days so I haven’t needed to bring the unit down for charging.Night video stays bright and the colour helps make details easier to see. Detection is accurate and false alerts are rare. The warning lights and siren are strong enough to get attention when triggered. Once linked to storage, recordings save without delay, which keeps everything organised. For home monitoring, it feels like a complete setup with very little maintenance.
I have bought Anker, now Eufy, products since their 'dongle days' and have always found them reliable. This offer of a pair of security cameras came at a very fortuitous moment as there has recently been a spate of burglaries in my area. The system. The box holds two cameras c/w batteries, two solar panels, connection cables, mounts and a Homebase 3 Basestation. The cameras are designated 'Solo' so either a Basestation or your home WiFi can be used to set up and control them via the Eufy app.The Basestation.Whilst not essential for the operation of these cameras it does provide a reliable WiFi network and up to 16TB of storage for video files plus enables full 24/7 recording, I understand you also need to connect the source camera(s) to a mains USB to do this due to the power requirement of constant streaming. The Homebase also holds additional AI brainpower which can differentiate between people (individual faces if you enable it), pets, cars or general motion. The Basestation can form a WiFi mesh network with other Basestations to extend their range and enable linked tracking with other cameras. If you are already a Homebase owner then when you instal the new Homebase it suggests you can migrate previously installed cameras to the new one. This is effortless, just select which if any of the cameras you wish to migrate and away it goes. You need a wired ethernet connection for any Homebase. The Cameras. After opening the box remove the batteries for their initial charge as this takes at least four hours. If appropriate this is a good time to migrate any existing Eufy brand cameras that hold video data to the new Homebase 3, as transferring all the old video clips will take ages. Yes, even on a fast cabled network, it takes ages.Putting the cameras together is far simpler than I could have imagined. Mounting the solar panel on top of the camera is just two small screws and plugging in a USB C cable. The camera body rotates to allow easy access to the USB C port and sync button. The battery compartment slides sideways to open it. An excellent touch is the screws that attach the camera to its mounting plate or secure the battery unit are held in place with a spring system so when they are unscrewed they don't fall out onto the floor. The cameras are in two sections. An upper part which is a constant wide angle and the lower part which automatically tilts, swivels and zooms to follow a detected event. The camera control is remarkably clever, within minutes it was able to follow my dog around the garden and then predict where she would emerge even after going out of sight. I set up the other camera in the front of the house as a visible deterrent is infinitely preferable to intrusion. Initially this camera was also picking up and following people on the other side of the street before I tilted down the upper camera and set a detection zone. Day or night the camera reacts and follows in about 1.5 seconds or someone walking about 1.5 metres, when it finds someone it tracks whilst zooming in for a picture of their face. This image is used for identification. The camera has a tamperproof alarm that is phenomenally loud, and flashing lights too.Mounting the camera is just two screws, I mounted one onto brick and the other to pebbledash, using a 6mm masonry drill the whole process took a few minutes. The recorded video quality is aways 4k but the stream is variable. The picture quality is excellent and at night the inbuilt light, if you don't use the IR setting, is clever enough to set its brightness to the nearest object. Try to mount the camera where you can get to it to clean it as spiders love the red IR glow.Software.The joy of this system is everything is held and processed locally, all the data is encrypted and secure. There isn't a subscription to pay and data backup/archiving can be a USB stick or simply downloading a clip to your device. Installation via the app is a handholding experience and should not present any difficulty.I have previously bought Eufy security cameras and about 4 months ago I emailed them via the app requesting a 'favourites' button to help sort through clips. They replied within a day and now a few months later the 'favourites' feature has arrived. They listen.Summary.I am genuinely impressed with this system, the camera is good looking and not overly intrusive, the software works and the image quality is great. Installation was straightforward and within a day I spotted a suss clocking the camera and then scuttling off. Result.
What a nice setup this is.The camera weighs 930g and the removable battery is 170g of that. The Solar panel is extra 307g so 1.2kilo camera with solar mounted. Luckily it looks like the mounting bracket is good for the job.Got to love the movable camera auto tracking of people who enter your marked out zones, once latched on the auto track follows them out of your zone and stays with them zooming in to keep them centered until no longer visible. The only problem I found with this is that when the subject leaves the area, if a 2nd person enters the camera zoomed in zone it then latches on to this new person tracking and zooming on them until they leave the vision area. Almost stalking by AI.The supplied solar panels look to be of good quality and are rated at up to 5.5watts. I couldn't use mine as I wanted to record 24/7 and for that you need to purchase separately a 5v 2amp USB power adaptor to connect to the eufy supplied cables to power the camera’s.Also when continual recording is set, it will fail to record any video unless you install a hard drive. The eufy type C cables supplied for powering the camera's will need a 20mm hole to pass the type C cable through, its a pity as the actual cable is under 4mm, its just the end fittings are so large.I actually cut my cables, drilled a 5mm hole and reconnected the 3 wires once I had everything in position. It would be nice if eufy did a slim inline plug and socket so homeowners didn't have to drill such large holes for such a small cable. The camera C port cover is as usual well sealing and hard to pick out of its socket without pricking it with a pin, why they don't leave a tab sticking out to aid this is a mystery.Once all ready to be connected and App downloaded its very easy to add the camera and homebase to the App, then take it outside and mount it.The App has lots of user controls availableMy saved video from hard drive was 2304x2592 13.88fps.15fps or less in this age is just shocking.A screenshot taken from live view was 2688x1520While I am very pleased with my eufyCam S4 2-Camera Kit it is quite expensive at £549 at review time considering that if you intend 24/7 recording you will need to purchase a hard drive for the homebase and you will have 2 redundant solar panels.
Spent a fair bit on this setup but you can really see where the money goes. The 4K quality is crystal clear day or night, and the colour night vision actually works — not that grainy mess you usually get. The triple-lens design and 360° pan/tilt means there are no blind spots at all.Setup was straightforward, connected to my network in minutes. The solar panels keep both cameras topped up easily, even in cloudy UK weather, so I haven’t had to plug them in once.Auto-tracking works surprisingly well — it smoothly follows people or cars without lag. The 8× hybrid zoom is genuinely useful when you want to check details like plates or faces.Storage is expandable which is nice, no forced subscription nonsense. The app’s responsive, notifications come through fast, and the overall build feels proper premium.Pricey, yes, but if you want a fit-and-forget, high-end security system that actually delivers 4K detail and smart tracking, this is the one to go for.
